How to Find Footing in a New Gig
DMs from #freshers who are entering the B2B SaaS realm, about how to find their footing in a new gig inspired this post.
It's tough finding the balance. And trust me I've failed at it once or twice 🥲
But here's the learning: shining during onboarding isn't about knowing it all from day one—
It's more about a handful of small yet impactful steps that can truly make a difference.
✅ Chat it up: Reach out to different folks in various departments. You'd be surprised how much you can learn in a quick call or Slack convo, even in a remote setup.
✅ Soak in the vibes: Get the hang of company rituals and culture. Small stuff like starting a Zoom call with a casual 'Hey Akshaya, whatsUp?' can go a long way.
✅ Dive into resources: Companies usually stash loads of info in their departmental Wikis or Notion docs. Don't forget to drink up your website content!!
✅ Eavesdrop (kinda): Listen in on customer calls, no matter your department. It's gold for understanding what you're product does and who it caters to.
✅ Know your leaders: Get a good grip on what they do and their responsibilities.
✅ Track and document EVERYTHING: you learnings and your progress.
✅ Show up: Even if you're lost in these new team meetings that's put on your calendars, you got to show up at least you'll know where to find help.
✅ Product knowledge that's a lifelong learning journey. Embrace the grind!
Last but not the least,
✅ Be transparent about how you work.
Happy Hustling!
