A Sales Call that Made Me Lose It
I experienced one of the worst sales calls in recent times.
Yesterday while reversing the car we hit a rock on the blind spot and as you can see it gave the car these scratches on the front left-bottom of bumper.
Some of you who know me real well know how attached I am to my car (this one being my dad's) I be extra conscious.
I was upset a bit but immediately started checking out automobile repairs and touchup options.
My friend suggested a doorstep car repair service and in no time I was filling out the registration.
I got a call after about 4 hours... I wish I didn't get it.
The sales lady on the call verified my info and enquired about what happened to the car. I told her that I had 3 scratches on my front bumper that needs to be touched up.
she started explaining the packages and services ( I was least interested in anything other than the touch-up)
I insisted that she only quote me for the scratch touch-up. She totally ignored me and again talked about bumper replacement and color Match painting package.
I lost it after trying her the third time.
These were her exact words, "I understand madam, but instead of touching up the scratch why don't you change the entire bumper and we can even paint the bumper in the exact color of your car."
First of all, NO! NO YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND ME!
Secondly, why on earth would I want to change the entire bumper and spend 3.9k for these 3-4 scratches in a nearly invisible spot?
The fact that these kinds of sales calls are the reason why the sales industry is so despised is was what really infuriated me that day.
I would have really appreciated if the rep asked me:
1. what model is your car?
would have easily given her an idea if I'd be open to an investment like that.
3. how big is the scratch and did you also get a dent?
would have given her the answer to whether a replacement was even necessary .
4. do you think a bumper replacement would be necessary?
As a reassurance and I would have totally respected it.
5. please share the picture of the damage and I'll send you the quote right away.
close the deal.
I might have still not replaced my bumper but I would have definitely given her my business if they could do anything about this.
