Defining Success Beyond Job Tenure

I recently received a thoughtful question from a connection on LinkedIn,

And it's one that I've heard multiple times before.

My answer to this question has always been rooted in a few key truths:

Firstly, I've been incredibly fortunate to be in the right places at the right times, learning from the best.

I've also built an amazing network of experts, supporters, and well-wishers along the way, who've enriched my knowledge immensely.

However, I did fall into the trap of self-doubt.

I constantly asked myself, "Do I really have the experience to talk about what I share here?"

I talked about it with my former colleague and dear friend Sushma.

She said something that completely reframed my thinking:

"Bro, your experience isn't just these 5 years at different companies. Maybe it's your hashtag#SaaS experience, not your sales or life experience."

That blew my mind!!!!

Most of what I share on LinkedIn aren't just playbooks, frameworks, or scripts.

I share stories, thoughts, and experiences.

And these are beliefs, values & experiences I've built over the last 25 years not just the last 5, working in a company.

My overall sales experience isn't limited to what's on my resume.

In fact, my first sale was when I convinced my parents to let me go on an excursion when I was five.

I'm not defined by the years on my resume, and neither are you.

I write here because I have a voice and strong opinions. I do what I do because I enjoy doing it and see it making a difference in many people's lives.

I trust the process and hope my journey can be useful for others to learn from, through both successes and failures.

So, if you're doubting yourself like I did, remember:

you're not defined by the number of years of experience you have on paper.

Your value and wisdom go far beyond that.
