Personalisation is Simply Overrated

Someone asked for one of my successful cold calls last week and I shared one which landed a meeting.

They came back to me and said - "Hey Akshaya, this cold call doesn't involve research on the prospect and it doesn't sound personalized.

Can you send me any other call that has that piece?"

Of course! But this is the one that got me a meeting.

Here's the thing, my goal is to respect their time by getting to the point and getting an answer - yes, no, or maybe, fast.

I mean it's a cold call. Over an email or LinkedIn message, it's a different story.

You can add all your research pieces and your prospects have the time to look into it.

But on a cold call - firstly, you're interrupting their day, secondly, they aren't interested in what they already know, and lastly, they want to know why you're calling.

So why not get to the point ASAP.

I focus on keeping my cold calls brief and relevant, not always personalised.

You might disagree but let's normalise it, what works for you might not for me.

I've been hitting above 100% of my quota MoM and 60% of my meetings are from phone.

I have great relationships with my prospects and they respect me for being direct.

Isn't that what I want?
